Tour schedule
Transfer to the archaeological site of the ancient and wealthy town of Herculaneum, buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, like the nearby and better-known Pompeii.
Useful Information
Visit the excavations of Herculaneum! The Roman city of Herculaneum, destroyed and buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., was brought back to the headlines of history in the 18th century thanks to Bourbon explorations. Over time, the memory of the location of the ancient Roman city was lost, and it was not until 1710 that a farmer, Ambrogio Nucerino, digging a well to irrigate his vegetable garden, recovered many valuable marble fragments, which only later were understood to belong to the theater of the ancient city.
